They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. — Benjamin Franklin (via amealofcats)
Will you come with me to the mountains? It will hurt at first, until your feet are hardened. Reality is harsh to the feet of shadows. But will you come? — C.s. Lewis (The Great Divorce)
Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night the ice weasels come. — Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons. (via packardian)
It is in those moments were you think you have failed so many times that you might as well have given up. But in all of those times you think you have failed, you didn’t bother to notice that you were given another chance. There will always be that person watching you every time you fail and try again; that person will always understand the fight you are going through and no matter how difficult the fight is, the person will always be guiding you without you even knowing. Never give up trying because eventually you will succeed and no matter how others may view your accomplishment, you personally know that it was a tough battle. So don’t worry try and try harder. Examine your mistakes and learn from them. Use your knowledge to your advantage and I mean Never, Never, Never, ever even consider, don’t you even dare say you have failed. — Javier Martinez (via javiphotography)
I’ve always tried to please and satisfy an audience that thinks they’ve seen everything. I try to force them to laugh at their own ability to still be shocked by something. This reaction has always been the reason I make movies. I hate message movies and pride myself on the fact that my work has no socially redeeming value. — John Waters, from Shock Value: A Tasteful Book About Bad Taste (via roamingisalocalcurse)

It’s a New Year and with it comes a fresh opportunity to shape our world. So this is my wish, a wish for me as much as it is a wish for you: in the world to come, let us be brave – let us walk into the dark without fear, and step into the unknown with smiles on our faces, even if we’re faking them. And whatever happens to us, whatever we make, whatever we learn, let us take joy in it. We can find joy in the world if it’s joy we’re looking for, we can take joy in the act of creation. So that is my wish for you, and for me. Bravery and joy. — Neil Gaiman’s New Years wish (via sickeninglyliberal)

There is a woman at the begining of all great things. — Alphonse Marie Louis de Lamartine (via quotedojo)
A little health now and again is the invalid’s best remedy. —  - Nietzsche (via discoveringjade)
I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically — any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn’t express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women.

John Lennon

Daily reminder that Lennon himself admitted to being physically abusive towards women. This is not a rumor; this is a reality. I’m really tired of people treating him as if he were some kind of saint.

Lennon was definitely not a saint or a god. In many ways, he was repulsive. And in many interviews, like this one, he speaks not-so-kindly of a lot of people, including Paul. But yeah, he could write song and he did seem to change his ways and everyone is allowed to have redemption if they seek forgiveness and truly change.

Here’s the whole interview.

Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty. — H.P. Lovecraft (via moon-critter)
There is no quality of the mind, or of the body, that so instantaneously and irresistibly captivates, as wit. An elegant writer has observed that wit may do very well for a mistress, but that he should prefer reason for a wife. He that deserts the latter, and gives himself up entirely to the guidance of the former, will certainly fall into many pitfalls and quagmires, like him who walks by flashes of lightning, rather than the steady beams of the sun. CHARLES CALEB COLTON, Lacon (via jaegerjaques)
Books are the ultimate Dumpees: put them down and they’ll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back. — John Green, An Abundance of Katherines (via wotcherkatniss)
